... on HIMSELF
Strengths: "Big heart, smart, funny, loyal, reliable,
honest."
Weakness: "I over commit myself. I just can't say no.
And it gets me into trouble because I end up doing too much
and then eventually not really doing enough of anything
because I spread myself so thin. I try not to do it but I
still do it."
Others may not see: "Nothing - I am very
transparent."
I've been known to ... "make beautiful smiles.
Personally when people meet me, I would hope that they'd
say, I'm a really compassionate person."
Interests: "I like to paint and draw. I just don't have
time anymore. I like sports. I like the outdoors. I love to
water ski, snow ski, hike, fish and raft. I used to paint
anything. I'm not the most creative person but I can copy
anything. That's part of what I do every day as a
dentist."
Special Talents: "I make people smile. I make people
laugh. I meant it both ways, figuratively and literally.
Fluent in French. I worked for two years in Switzerland
after dental school. I play the guitar but I'm really bad.
And I sing along and I'm even worse."
Awards: "7 Life Time Achievement awards from
Dentistry's most noted academies."
Charities: "I am committed to giving back. Together
with Garth Brooks and hundreds of dentists, we have helped
raise over $25 million for children's charity. Also I
co-founded the LEAP Foundation, a motivational and
leadership non profit foundation for high school and
college students."
15 minutes of fame: "Jay Leno set me up on a blind date
with Teri Hatcher on the Tonight Show. It was November,
2004. He asked her if there was anybody she wanted to go out
with on TV and she said, `yeah the dentist on extreme
makeover' so he set me up with her. It was fun, she was
really nice."
Travels: "World-wide - been everywhere."
Spirituality: "Not big on religion - just be a good
person and do unto others as you would have them do unto
you."
Fashion sense: "Classic, simple."
Staying healthy: "Eat right ALWAYS, work out Always.
"I run, swim, do weights, stretch, I do
everything."
What touches my soul: "Another person's beautiful
soul."
... on WOMEN
I first notice ... "her smile, of course. It's got to
be a rockin' smile, like straight white teeth and voluptuous
lips. Then, from there we work our way down."
Attention-getters: "I like a woman with a really,
really great sense of humor, someone who can make me laugh.
You know they say a way to a man's heart is through his
stomach. I don't care that much about food, I mean I eat it
to stay alive, that's not like a big thing for me. But if
you can make me laugh, that's going to go a lot
further."
Ideal woman: "They need to be organized. I mean I'm not
like everything has to be fastidiously clean, that's not it,
but I can't stand people who are flaky. I mean they need to
what they're going to do and do what they're going to say.
If you're going to say you're going to be somewhere, be
there. Don't come an hour late, come on time, be there, show
up. Whatever you say you're going to do, you need to follow
through and do. Just be reliable, be responsible, be real.
They need to take care of themselves, be in good shape, eat
healthy and care about the way they look and about their
health. They need to be funny and intelligent and they need
to like kids because I have three really beautiful
ones."
I can't resist a woman who ... "is beautiful and can
make me laugh."
Most important quality in a woman: "She has to be
happy. I just realized over time that you can't make people
happy, people have to be happy. Once they're happy, you can
go from there but if you think you're going to find somebody
and turn things around and make them happy, you're mistaken.
You need to find somebody who's just happy and happy with
themselves."
Ideal date: "Let's break ideal date into two
categories, ok? There are the first dates until you really
get to know each other and then there's the dates after you
know each other, right? So the first dates are more like
dinner, movie, stuff like that. Second dates are more like
just hanging out at home, cooking dinner together, and just
spending a really nice quiet evening and maybe watch a movie
at home and hot tub and that kind of stuff."
Do you cook: "No, I can't cook to save my life. She's
cooking. If I cook, we both end up in the ER."
I'd call a woman back after a first date ... "if we had
a good time and she was fun and there seemed like there was
a possible future."
I'd never date a woman who ... "smoked. No way, I don't
care who she is. That is a total deal breaker. If she smokes
or does any drugs."
How I show I care: "I just spend time with them and
engage in their lives."
Are you a little bit of a playboy: "Not at all, one
woman at a time, that's it. I date somebody and either I
want to continue to date them so I date them or if I don't,
I go on to another. I'm not a playboy at all."
What makes a woman unforgettable: "It's the whole
thing, the way they look, the way they feel, the way they
smell. You put all those things together and when you get
the combination right, she will be unforgettable."
I wish women understood ... "that just because you're
working and busy with work doesn't mean that you're not
interested in them. I often feel like women feel like
they're neglected but I wasn't born with a silver spoon in
my mouth. I have to work. Believe me, I would love to take a
lot of vacations and not spend hours and hours working every
day but the reality is I have to work in order to support
everybody. I wish that women were more appreciative of that
and didn't think that it was a choice. Like, well if he
really loved me more, he would spend more time with me. A
lot of times, you do love somebody, but you still have to
work. I don't do dentistry on the weekends but look, I have
a company too, there are things that need to get done,
emails and business stuff, there's a lot of things."
... on RELATIONSHIPS
On relationships: "I'd love to find a great
relationship. If the right person were there, I would like
to be married again. But it would have to be really, really
amazing. I'm not rushing to do it. And I don't think that
you need to be married to be happy. So I'm not in pursuit of
marriage, more in pursuit of a great happy
relationship."
What I love most about being in a relationship: "Just
the consistency and the comfort. I like having somebody to
share my life with. My grandfather once said, `success is
nothing without somebody to share it with.' All these great
things happen, you want somebody to share it with."
Are you picky: "Isn't everybody picky, cmon on. We're
all picky. Everybody's picky."
Top relationship keys: "You have to both be committed
to wanting to make it work. You have to make time for each
other. You have to be honest with each other. And you both
like to do the same things."
A woman in a relationship with me can expect ... "the
unexpected. Anything can happen at any time in any place. My
life is so crazy. Tonight I'm leaving to go to Denmark, I'll
be there for a week, I come home, I change my bags and then
I go to Australia for a week, lecturing. I'll be doing TV
and press and all that and then I get home and then I'm
going to Africa with Tomorrow's Kids where I'm going to be
doing tons of media and press and even doing a few dental
seminars and help raise money for Aids, children who are
orphaned by Aids. I get to do a lot of really fun, cool
exciting things. And I love bringing somebody with me. I
love sharing all that with a girlfriend."
What kind of boyfriend are you: "I am a very committed,
devout boyfriend. I'm loyal and I jump through hoops for my
women. Really, there's like nothing I wouldn't do for
them."
What I expect: "The same. I just want to be appreciated
and loved for who I am."
What makes me feel close to a woman: "When she really
lets down her guard and lets me in to her life."
What makes a woman marriage material: "It's pretty
easy. It's somebody that you see the potential for spending
the rest of your life with. Somebody that you really think
that you're going to want to be with every day. It's a whole
list of like 100 things. There's so many things. I'm not
going to settle anymore. When I find somebody where I really
think it's a perfect match, then I would consider getting
married again. But there's a lot of factors. And you know
what some things are deal breakers and some things aren't. I
realize that no one's perfect and neither am I, but there's
some things you say ok well you know I'm not really crazy
about that but you can live with it. And then you say, well
you know, I can't live with that, there's no way."
... on SEX
Most sensual part of a woman's body: "Lips."
Sexiest thing a woman can wear in private: "Chanel
#5."
... on LIFE
Making my mark: "I think I'm doing so, I think the
greatest thing we can do in life is just make this world a
better place for having been here. And I'm very committed to
doing that. I've helped raise over 25 million dollars for
children's charities. I co founded a non profit program
called LEAP which is a motivational leadership program for
high school and college kids that we do in the summer. Just
you know trying to make the world better."
Valuable life lesson: "It goes back to the same thing,
just try to make the world a better place for having been
here. Do onto others as you'd like them to do onto you. If
everybody would treat each other well, I think the world
would be a really great place."
I must ... "be on the cover of Men's Health. I was
hoping I could be the new face for 50. I still want to get
my talk show on the air, I shot a pilot for a talk show last
year, I would be one of the hosts. And I'd like to see my
LEAP Program grow and grow."
Best advice received: "Never give up."
... on HIS FAVORITE THINGS
Movie: "Slumdog Millionaire."
TV Show: "Two and 1/2 Men."
Book: "Sci Fi."
Music: "Coldplay, 5 for Fighting, John Mayer."
Food: "Healthy."
... final THOUGHTS
Wheels: "Lexus."
Pets: "My daughters have toy poodles. I have never
taken those dogs in public, ever."
Tattoos/piercings: "NEVER!"
Always in my refrigerator: "If you look in my
refrigerator, you won't find out anything about me. It's all
for my kids. I do like soy ice cream sandwiches."
Hottest possession: "I have a silver dollar that's
about 110 years old and it's mounted on a little marble base
and you can flip it. You can spin heads or tails. It says on
there, `decision, decision decision,' and it was given to me
by my grandfather. He's passed."
I'd change places for 24 hours with ... "Barack. Just
to be the most powerful world leader in the most powerful
country in the world for a day, I think that'd be a
blast."
I'd most like to hang out with ... "the
President."
Celeb I'd love to take on a date: "Angelina. It's not
just that she's so beautiful because she is, I love all of
the philanthropic stuff that she does. I'm just really into
that."
Why I'm a great catch: "Kind, hardworking,
sincere, self-made man always FUN!"
Me in a word: "Doctor"
