... the FACTS
Born: Newcastle, Australia. When I was 11-yrs-old, I asked to go to boarding school. So I went off to boarding school for 6 yrs
in Sydney and had the time of my life. It was great, I loved it."
Resides: Edgecliff, Australia, halfway between the city and Bondi Beach
Birth date: 5-26-72
Sign: Gemini
Height: 5' 11 3/4"
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Family: I'm the oldest of five kids. Mom actually had 4 kids in 27 months, believe it or not. Twin girls
a year younger, brother a year older. Then there's a gap between my youngest brother and myself of 12 yrs so he's known as the mistake.
Status: Never married, no children
Nonsmoker
Education: Boarding School. Studied written communications at Newcastle University. At the time I was into writing a lot, I'd just write poetry or anything. I studied viticulture
in New Zealand.
Occupation: Entertainment reporter for TV Week magazine. Co-host of The Know on the Max Channel. I've done everything from being a concierge at a hotel to picking up dead bodies for the police dept.
Reality Star: Popular and a bit controversial contestant in the first Australian Big Brother in 2001. I went 7 out of the 12 weeks.
I was just one of these people who sort of spoke my mind and I think people appreciated that instead of trying to play games with the audience and with other people in the show..
... on HIMSELF
Strengths: "I love to talk, it's very hard to shut up so there's never a dull silence over dinner, that's for sure. I can be quite positive about things. I look at things from all different angles before I take an opinion on them. And that's got a lot to do with sort of being a critic for TV, you can't just say something without backing it up. So I look at everything from all angles before I make my decisions."
Weaknesses: "Well, maybe the talking. Some people think I talk too much ... about nothing. I can tend to dribble on as they say. I don't think that but others may argue differently. I know exactly what my mother would say, she's say he's very impatient. I have a short temper for, we have a saying over here, I don't suffer fools very well. I have no time for people who are just stupid, if you know what I mean, and wasting my time. I have a weakness for women. Actually I am a little bit of a romantic. I just like females company."
Others may not see: "My loyalty, perhaps. If I get it from you, then I'm definitely going to give it back to you. And I think a lot of people see me,
not as unloyal, but they just would not put that in the top three of my traits. But
then upon saying that, if you cross me, it's all over, there's no second chances. Once you break that trust, it's going to be very very hard to get it back. But I can be very very loyal to people. People see me more of a player - because I'm quite a big flirt.
I just love meeting people, playing and chatting to them and getting to know them and people see that as quite flirtatious, which I think it is, but ... I have bit
of a reputation that I don't necessarily live up to. Because here's the thing, I had mostly long term girlfriends. I cheated on one of my girlfriends very
early when I was about 18 and I learned my lesson then big time. And have never done it since. It ruined something that could have been fantastic. I just made a mistake, told her and she rightly so said `well I don't want to have anything to do with you anymore.' She's now married and living in France - with three children."
I'm known for ... "definitely Big Brother. Being sort of an Aussie bloke with a little bit of intelligence, perhaps,
but someone who not only tells it like it is, but who isn't afraid to try things, do the
`dancing duna' every now and then, maybe a bit of a womanizer but as I said it's more flirtatious then anything. I make sure there's no cameras around anymore and if there is then I get to keep the tape."
Interests: "Food and wine, definitely. Also, I cooked in kitchens in Australia,
NZ and over in London as well so I love my food. I love the outdoors, I just love the beach, surfing, just laying on the beach, chatting to friends. I just spend hours at the beach on the weekends, hanging out. There's nothing nicer on a lazy Saturday afternoon heading down to the pub with just your board shorts and T-shirt on
having a barbecue and hanging out with friends. I love all sports. I can spend hours watching sports. Also I love television. Good quality television. Things like 24, Entourage, Prison Break. And how it's all put together, the making of it, that just intrigues me."
Turn-ons: "Travel. I just love meeting people. I'm just obsessed with the Japanese culture at the moment as well."
Turn-offs: "Negative people, bad drivers, people who aren't willing to give others a chance, just treat everyone well, people don't treat people the way they want to be treated. We come across a few of them like those actors and actresses who think they're a little bit better than everyone else and that really gets me. You know what in 6 months time you'll be back waiting tables and you'll be dying for people to talk to you."
Special Talents: "I can jump over my own leg, which I know sounds weird but it is a lot harder than you think. After years of hanging out at the family beach house with friends and no surf, it's amazing what you get up to and what strange talents you actually have. Unfortunately a lot of them are unprintable."
Charities: "I do a little bit with the Children's Hospital because kids are such defenseless people. I try to give them as much as we can. And to see a smiling face on a kid ..."
Travels: "Europe, a bit of the States, New Zealand."
Spirituality: "Religion has killed more people through the centuries than anything else, and is continuing to do so. I don't really have time for many organized religions. I think it's sad that people feel like they need to be told how to live their lives."
Fashion sense: "Day to day, I'm a jeans and a T-shirt kind of a guy. At night or if I'm getting dressed up I have a bunch of bespoke suits that I love to wear and they are quite classical and conservative. I'm a big Polo Ralph Lauren fan."
Staying healthy: "I'm lucky that there is a gym under my offices and they have a great feature where they wash your gym gear for you after each session and put it back in your locker for next time. It's great and it means I have no excuse for not going because all my stuff is there ready to go. So I do a few weights a couple of times a week and play basketball once, if not twice a week. I also love to run but have been sick for a little while and am just getting back into it."
What touches my soul: "People who are willing to give of themselves without wanting anything back. I think that's an amazing trait in people, something I wish I had. One of my favorite charities is doctor's without borders ... they just amaze me, they're so selfless. I wish I could do that ... That really gets me."
... on WOMEN
I first notice ... "probably the eyes. It doesn't bother me if they're short or tall or blonde or brunette. It's more the eyes. You can just tell a lot about someone just by looking them straight in the eyes."
Attention-getters: "Someone who has the guts to sort of just be themselves in a world of judgmental people. Someone who's got a little bit of independence, a little bit of edge to them, so it's not just another face in the crowd. And that can be anything from a haircut, to the clothes to the way they carry themselves."
Ideal woman: "One of the main things I look for in a woman is someone who motivates me, who makes me think. Who just makes me want to get out of bed every day and go and perform well or do something well as in go to work and do the best I can. So not just to please them but to be happy with myself. It really bugs me when you have a girlfriend who's just sort of a `yes' person ... Someone who's willing to be themselves and go and do their own things and not worry about what I'm up to. I don't need a handbag. I have this real thing about girls who have to be baby-sat at a party or something. Obviously I like a pretty girl, a good looking girl. And someone who takes care of themselves as well. You don't have to go and exercise all the time but just do it for your own health as well, because I'm quite big on going to the gym and running, and just keeping fit."
I can't resist a woman who ... "looks me in the eye. It means they've got a bit of guts about them, they give you that stare - I love that sexy come over and talk to me stare, that come hither stare. You never know what you're going to get."
Most important quality in a woman: "Integrity is high on the list."
Ideal date: "I think a perfect date would have to start during the day probably around lunch time, go down to the beach. I just got myself a new motorcycle so we'd go for a ride on the bike. Then maybe meet up with either her friends or some of my friends for a little bit of a late afternoon drink at the local pub. Then go home, shower and dinner at a nice restaurant, probably just the two of us. Then just heading back home and chat. No movies or anything like that because that's just too much of a distraction. I like one on one."
I'd call a woman back after a first date ... "if she told me she was going to call me back and she didn't. That really frustrates me. I think wanting to know more about her. I don't want to hear your whole life story on a first date. So someone who intrigues me, gives me little bits and pieces about themselves, which is nice. And it just keeps me wanting to learn more."
I'd never date a woman who ... "kept talking about herself."
How I show I care: "By giving her my undivided attention, by giving them 100% of me. When I'm with someone, my phones turned off, because I'm with them for that period of time that we decided to spend time together. There's no one else in the world at that time."
What makes a woman unforgettable: "Someone who intrigues me, I just love someone who I just want to find out more and more about. That's the mental side of things and then the physical side of things, someone with amazing eyes. Once you've seen some beautiful eyes, you never forget them. That's one thing about a woman I have realized. You can look into someone's eyes and you can see so much about them and that's why I love the eyes. You can't hide. That's what I love about them, there's no hiding in someone's eyes. It's the way they use them."
I wish women understood ... "that we're not all Neanderthals. We do have a brain. And we're not as stupid as you sometimes think we are. Give us a bit more credit. There is that type of mentality but these are just gross generalizations. We're not all the same. Just give us the time of day, please."
One thing a woman has never done for me yet, but I would love it: "I'd really love to see what it's like to be loved unconditionally. I don't know if that's really happened, if it has, I've missed it which is probably my ignorance. Maybe that unconditional love has to be a two way street, that's maybe why I haven't, that's my fault. But I would love to experience that with a woman of unconditional love, of just knowing that you can trust them and give them anything and everything and they're always going to be there."
... on RELATIONSHIPS
On relationships: "I've had mostly long term relationships. I'm not going to waste my time with a girl who just doesn't interest me, just for the hell of it. I just meet people quite easily so I can slip into a relationship quite easily.
I'm pretty social, I'm probably out 4-5 nights a week A relationship is definitely important to me.
This is probably the longest I haven't been in a relationship. It's not a crutch but it's something I just love. I just love to be able to talk to them about things and get a second opinion. Not that I rely on them, but it's always nice, I mean even when you're just gong shopping to buy jeans, having your girlfriend there it makes life so much easier. I like children but I don't think I've got the patience for them and I don't think I'm ready in the sense, this might sound a bit wrong, but financially, Id like to be in a position to give my children an opportunity of a good school. I know money's not everything but I'd like to at least give my child every opportunity, basically it's a big bad world out there, financially and again also the impatient side of things. The problem with having children is you're never going to be able to sleep in until they're 16. I like my sleep ins on a sat morning. I don't think I need a piece of paper to tell someone I love them..."
Top relationship keys: "Without a doubt, trust and honesty."
A woman in a relationship with me can expect ... "if she's the right one, then 100% support in everything she does. If she wants to leave her work and do some crazy business idea, then I'm not going to stop her. I'm a busy boyfriend, I'm out and about. I'm a social one. I'm probably a flirtatious one ... If you want to be my girlfriend, you cannot be jealous at all. Because if I'm with you, I'm with you whether I spend three hours with a beautiful girl or not, I'm still going home with you at the end of the day. You can't be jealous, for me it's work. And also I just love it too, meeting new people, be they beautiful or not. It just so happens the majority of the girls I talk to are pretty, it's my job."
What I expect: "I don't expect too much from you, all I really expect is your love, your trust and your honesty. Basically your honesty. If you're not happy about something, tell me. We're not mind readers, we can't just work you girls out. That's why we're called the opposite sex. You're totally opposite to us. We can't read your minds, so help us out here. If you tell me, I'll try the best I can to not so much solve t, but just make things better. But I can't do it on my own."
When I'm in love, ... "I'm yours. You've got me. I'm still looking for that person who I want to give my whole life to, and I'm sure they're out there. For me, that's what love is and that's why I don't use the word too often."
What makes me feel close to a woman: "When she calls just to say hello. It means that she is thinking about me, even we we're not together."
Greatest relationship lesson: "Don't cheat EVER. You will always get caught and if you don't the guilt will kill you even if the relationship ends. I did it once in my early twenties and have hated myself for it ever since."
What makes a woman marriage material: "Honest and independent. There is nothing worse than a woman who you have to baby sit all the time and marrying one would be a disaster."
... on SEX
What makes sex good: "No inhibitions."
I feel my sexiest ..."after exercise, actually. I don't know what it is, maybe it's that it pumps all those hormones trough you or something but yeah. Maybe just your muscles are all bulging."
Most sensual part of a woman's body: "Their lower back, that little dip just above their bottom."
Sexiest thing a woman can wear in private: "I do like lingerie. I do like Victoria's Secret. Most people I'd imagine would say nothing but I do like to leave something to the imagination. I do like lacy ones, I'm not into silk, I just like really nice lacy intricate things. And color really doesn't bother me at all, probably not brown though, that's not really sexy."
Surefire way to seduce me: "Look me in the eye and talk to me. Tell me about yourself."
... on LIFE
Making my mark: "Just by being happy. There are only a few people who can actually change the world but if you can make your own personal world a better place then it's a good start."
Valuable life lesson: "Always cover your arse. This was a tip from one of my first bosses and it was proven a handy one over the years. If you have a back up there is always a way out of sticky situations."
I must ... "1. I'd love to do the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. It would be incredible to be out in the middle of the ocean, against the elements and nature. 2. Travel with a bunch of friends to some exotic surf location on a really cool boat and just hang out for two weeks to a month just surfing, swimming, fishing and eating without a care in the world. 3. Open my own café or restaurant. Both the challenge of starting your own business and the satisfaction its success would bring is definitely worth the risks."
Best advice received: "Same as valuable lesson."
Best advice I've given a woman: "I'm smart enough to know not to give a woman advice."
... on HIS FAVORITE THINGS
Movie: "Snatch, Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
TV Show: 'Entourage."
Book: "A Secret History by Donna Tartt."
Music: "Anything by Nirvana."
Food: "Japanese."
... final THOUGHTS
Wheels: "Yellow Triumph Thruxton motorcycle."
Tattoos: "One tattoo on each arm. One tattoo is the symbol for the punk band Black Flag. I'm not their hugest fan but I just love it as a symbol; the other one is the shield of Neptune - to protect me in the ocean."
Always in my refrigerator: "Beer and champagne."
Hottest possession: "My bike."
I'd change places for 24 hours with ... "Bono - to have access to all those musicians, movie stars and politicians would be incredible and I'd also love to feel what it is like to rock in front of 100,000 people."
I'd most like to hang out with ... "Robbie Williams. The boy knows how to party and have fun. I have met him and he is a great guy."
Celeb I'd love to take on a date: "Former Miss Universe, Aussie Jennifer Hawkins. She's hilarious, genuine and I know we would have a great time - can you organize it for me??"
Why I'm such a great catch: "If you make me fall for you, I promise to be true, faithful and do everything I can for you."
Me in a word: "I have actually had a word invented for me (by one of my Big Brother housemates): Derumbulant - it means respectfully dodgy."
